South Beaverton Youth Cheer

What is Sideline Cheer?

Sideline cheers main focus is to cheer for the team and engage with fans to keep the fan spirits high during the football season. Sideline cheerleaders are enthusiastic, pump up the crowd, and encourage the fans to have spirit. Our cheerleaders are also typically on the field for team announcements and post-game when the team shakes hands. We also do half-time performances for the crowds on field.

2025 Season Details

Our Teams

We will have 3 teams this season, broken out by age group.

PIXIES (Cheering for TBD)- Kindergarten-3rd Grade
YOUTH (Cheering for Southridge)- 4th-6th Grade
JUNIOR (Cheering for Beaverton)- Select 6th Grade-8th Grade

Season Details

MIDDLE SCHOOLERS ONLY (6th grade-8th grade) have the chance to attend NCA Cheer Camp at Great Wolf Lodge July 7th-10th.
This camp is completely OPTIONAL, but is a great opportunity for our cheerleaders to start their season early, refresh their skills and have fun bonding before we get practices going. More details will be provided at our mandatory Parent Meeting May 13th.

ALL AGES!! We will have a mandatory SBC Readiness Cheer Camp in the evenings July 22nd-24th.
This camp will teach all the cheers and motions we will be doing during the season, so it is imperative your cheerleader is available for these evenings.
**Team placement for our 6th graders will be announced after this week of readiness camp on July 28th.**

Interested in Competition Cheer next winter? We know this is a ways off, but your cheerleader must do Sideline Cheer in order to compete on the competition team (this is an OCCA governing body rule we have to adhere to).
This Readiness Cheer Camp week will also be the week we decide placements for our competition teams and there will be one final day of Readiness Camp for just those interested in doing competition cheer, the evening of July 25th.  While Sideline practices are the focus in fall, we overlap with competition team practices partway through the season as well, and knowing our teams heading into the fall helps give us a head start on planning and skill development. More Competition Team details will be shared soon!
** Team Placements for Competition Cheer will be announced on July 28th**

Practices will be TBD, most likely at Garden Home Rec Center

Pixies will practice 1 hour, twice a week, in the evening beginning the week of July 28th.
Games will start Saturday, September 6th, and will be every Saturday through October. Games will be an additional 2.5 hour commitment

Youth will practice 1.5 hours, twice a week, in the evening beginning July 28th.
Games will start Saturday, September 6th, and will be every Saturday through October. Games will be an additional 3 hour commitment

Juniors
will practice 2 hours, twice a week, in the evening beginning July 28th.
Games will start Saturday, September 6th, and will be every Saturday through October. Games will be an additional 3 hour commitment

Our last practice will be October 23rd, even though games will continue beyond this date.

We do not know game schedules until the end of August, however, our plan this year is to cheer at only/mostly home games for all teams.  That means as a Junior team, we could cheer for 5/6 youth football one weekend and 7/8 football the next weekend. Our goal is to commute less for games this season.

We are at the mercy of TVYFL (Tualatin Valley Youth Football League) to release the youth football schedule, which typically happens at the end of August. We communicate it out to everyone the day we get the information, so stay tuned!

What's Included In The Cost of Cheer?

For cheer, all gear you purchase your cheerleader gets to keep.  Our fees also help cover costs associated with cheer, like fees to pay for our practice space/gym rentals, equipment we have to purchase (mats, signs, banners, etc.), certifications our coaches have to maintain, insurance for all participants, etc.  We do fundraising throughout the year and pass those efforts onto each cheerleader with cost reductions for program fees we have to charge.  However, costs are rising, so you can help us by both participating yourself and encouraging your friends and family to participate in our fundraising efforts, sponsoring our team or donating to our program through your company's matching charitable gifting programs.

2025 Costs

We will be using the same Cheer shell, bodyliner and skirt as last year. While we are moving onto a new black cheer shoe style this season, returners with shoes from last season in good condition can still use theirs. So returners can save by reusing these items, or participating in our Gently-Loved Resale Group (Gently-Loved Resale Group info below).

There is a $100 Non-refundable deposit due. We will have opportunities for your cheerleader to raise enough money to cover their full out of pocket costs. Should they reach this fundraising threshold, we will reimburse the deposit at that time.

We Have Ways to Help Cover Your Out of Pocket Costs!
Program Fundraising & Individual Fundraising
We will have only one required program fundraiser this sideline cheer season and it will incorporate our individual fundraising too.  It will not require you to set aside any specific day this summer, but rather will be done this spring on your own time, between May 13th and June 5th! Our program fundraiser has a required participation level and beyond it, we have set up prizes for our cheerleaders, including a threshold that will allow your cheerleader the chance to choose to have all fees covered for the season, 3 months of tumbling classes paid for at ODT, or if they are a middle schooler (6th grade-8th grade) they can choose to have their NCA Cheer Camp fees covered.  More details about our fundraiser will be laid out and all materials handed out at our mandatory Parent Meeting Tuesday, May 13th.

Gently-Loved Resale Group

This will be a Facebook Group set up only for those who are registered for sideline cheer and have paid their deposit.

Selling an item- Post a photo of the front and back of the item and size. If you do not know the size you can reach out to Kim Borton to see what size you ordered last year. You must sell the item for 50% of the full price. So Shell is $22.50, Skirt is $17.50 and Bodyliner is $18.50. When someone buys your item, you must arrange with them where/when to meet and exchange payment info (Venmo, Zelle, cash, etc.) on your own. Sales will go to the first to comment, then moving down your list as needed. You may move onto the next comment for purchase if first comment has not returned your message to connect for the sale within 24 hours.

Buying an item- you will comment on the posted image of the item you want to buy, saying you want to buy that item. Sales will be done in the order you commented on the post. The seller and you will then arrange to meet to purchase. Please be savvy with payment- have Venmo, Zelle, cash or other alternatives ready at time of purchase.

The seller can move on to the next comment  or purchase if you do not respond to them within 24 hours of them reaching out.

Not sure what size your child is- you can coordinate with the seller to go to them to try on the item they have for sale, but this is on you to coordinate, not SBYC Staff.
